Usk bursts its banks at Castle Meadows

Castle Meadows Flooded

The Usk well and truly burst its banks this afternoon, (Saturday 29th December), flooding Castle Meadows in Abergavenny. The water was well into the garden of the Bridge Inn, by the Llanfoist bridge.  Here some pictures we took on our way past, just before 5:00 pm. Sorry for the poor quality.

Keeping the home fires burning

Away from the battlefields of WW2, everyday folk were tightening their belts but looking ahead to a frugal but festive Christmas. Caerphilly Castle 1955

Caerphilly Castle

Slim and alive, with raven-black hair, Monica raced up the spiral stone stair: Dim stones absorbed light, reflected each sound And sight was deprived while hearing was drowned In echoes continuous filling the tower Blending our footfalls in music of power. Up, up in the dark, this never need end Young legs and young hearts […]

Christmas Around the World

world christmas

Christmas is all about turkey consumption, cracker pulling and stocking stuffing isn’t it? Of course, we all know there is a much deeper meaning to Christmas, but what I’m referring to here are the deep-seated traditions with which we choose to mark the occasion. It’s always interesting to hear about the Christmas traditions that different […]
