Abergavenny and District Carnival is now in it’s 14th consecutive year and is still going strong! The carnival is organised by a small committee of volunteers, who all work full time and help with carnival in their spare time. Despite having no parade this year due to there being a recent parade for the jubilee, there will still be lots on offer!

Abergavenny Carnival

On Saturday 14th July, the festivities will start from 11am onwards in Bailey Park. There will be a funfair, children’s attractions, food and drink from Taste of Wales, and a variety of stalls ranging from community associations to charities, local crafters and trade.

From midday there will be entertainment in two arenas – in the first arena, the It’s a Knockout competitions will be running, featuring local teams who are not afraid of having a laugh and getting very, very wet!! In the second arena, there will be a programme of entertainment throughout the afternoon, including Paws for Thought dog display team, Biker Urban Morris dancers, The Rhumney Coronets brass band, the local ATC band, a circus skills group, and a variety of local dance groups including Dance Blast and Kick Boxing. Music and PA for the day will be supplied by Matt Lane, of Mountain FM and AM Discos.

Children will be entertained by Terry the Paper Wizard, and his fantastic origami and Balloon Models, and also Fiery Jack’s circus skills, both of which will be located in the children’s entertainment tent.

The carnival again shares the park with the now annual Cycling Festival, which runs alongside our event with their own programme of events such as junior and adult races.

This year, there will be two competitons running during the carnival. A fancy dress competiton will run on the day for children and adults alike. There will be prizes for the best costumes! Also, in the Tourist Information display window in Red Square, there is a carnival display featuring a ‘Where’s Wally?‘ competition. Please register all entries for both competitons at the committee tent in the park on 14th July.

We are very grateful for the ongoing support of Abergavenny Town Council, who are again our main financial sponsors for the event. Their support allows the carnival to continue to offer free entry to everybody.

We hope to see you there!!
