Congratulations are in order for local Abergavenny actor, Simon Griffiths. He co-stars in the film The Voorman Problem, which has recently been nominated as a contender for the Best Short Film (Live Action) Oscar at this year’s forthcoming 86th Academy Awards to be held on 2nd March.
The cast of the film is made up of just four actors; Martin Freeman of Hobbit and Sherlock fame, Tom Hollander who starred in the BBC series, Rev, Elisabeth Grey, and Simon, who plays the role of Governor Bentley.
The film concerns the enigmatic Mr Voorman (Hollander), a prisoner with a peculiar affliction: he believes he is a god. When Dr Williams (Freeman) is called in to examine Mr Voorman, he must decide on his patient’s sanity: is he a faker or a lunatic?
The recent announcement that The Voorman Problem is in contention for a coveted Oscar is, of course, an exciting prospect. However, being that it is the only British film in the running, makes the idea of possible victory just that little bit more tantalising.
The Abergavenny Focus wishes Simon and the cast of The Voorman Problem the very best of luck at the forthcoming awards ceremony!
