Crickhowell Volunteer Bureau, is happy to announce that they have received a grant donation from the Lottery Community fund of just over £7000 to help cover additional hours, volunteer expenses and protective equipment.

The volunteers, led by Volunteer Bureau Manager Kerry Crosfield and supported by the many businesses and organisations in the area, have been and continue supporting vulnerable, isolated and shielded members of the community of Crickhowell and district during this Covid 19 emergency.

The volunteers deliver shopping, medication and other essentials and also support people with their telephone befriending support.

During the last 10 weeks we have been able to deal with over 1000 requests for help ranging from collecting and delivering prescriptions, grocery shopping, collecting hearing aid batteries, posting parcels and letters and telephone befriending to over 100 isolated/elderly clients.

The volunteers themselves are from all sectors of the community, including our existing befrienders and also young people undertaking their Duke of Edinburgh award scheme.

Kerry Crosfield said “We are very grateful to receive the lottery emergency Community fund as this will enable us to continue this much needed service in our Community. I am so proud and thankful to our dedicated volunteers who have enabled this service to run so efficiently. This situation has highlighted how strong our community is and how we are all able to come together in uncertain times to help each other.

Speaking to clients and volunteers on a daily basis, our experience shows that this service is greatly appreciated and will continue to be needed for some time to come.”
