A time and space just to be yourself is so important, whether it’s a five minute break, an evening or a weekend – it all adds up to feeling a little more human and a lot more yourself.
Something I find particularly fortifying is the process of printmaking and in particular mono print, which, with or without artistic training, you can produce the most delightful prints within a very short time.
The landscape is endlessly fascinating and botanical forms have increasingly surfaced in my art recently, which may be influenced by the setting of my market garden studio, and I find mono printing is an excellent way to more closely observe what plants thrive here.
My art is rooted in words; I explore both the expansive and reductive nature of words and the writing originating from particular places. Since moving into the area a few years ago I noticed just how many talented artists and writers live here and this got me thinking – wouldn’t it be great to get to know and potentially collaborate with a few more? So, I’m leading a Writer & Artist Speed Dating evening during the Abergavenny Writing Festival on 11 April, do mention it to both emerging and established artists and writers you know, it’s going to be a great opportunity to build relationships and strengthen your network.
Through my exploration of writing, botanical forms have surfaced and I’ve been mono printing to more closely observe the plants that thrive here. I find this process particularly mindful and rewarding and so I am sharing my experience and love of printing by running floral mono printing workshops at Abergavenny Community Centre. There are 8 places at each workshop, which book up quickly and so far we’ve printed snowdrops and honesty. Upcoming workshops appear on my website homepage www.wynnepaton.co.uk
