Focus Magazines The local magazines for Abergavenny, Crickhowell, Brecon & Talgarth – Events, News and Advertising

You know that feeling you get when you organise something so far in advance, that what seemed like such a good idea at the time you now start to wonder what you have let yourself in for? Well, that’s exactly how local Abergavenny couple James and Kerri Jones are feeling as they are taking on the mammoth challenge of the London marathon to raise awareness and funds for VICTA.

James and Keri, who have never run before, not even a 5k run are tackling this challenge head on. With the training regime well under way and the countdown ticking away to the big day on the 22nd of April.

The motivation behind this challenge is their chosen charity which is very dear to their hearts, with James being partially sighted from a very young age, he best knows the difficulties and challenges faced and that more support is needed throughout a child’s upbringing. You can support James, Keri and the VICTA charity by sponsoring them through their just giving page.

A change in lifestyle last year to try and lead a more healthy and active one, led James on a whim to enter the London Marathon. It all started with entering both their names in for the ballot. When Keri got picked there was no turning back, so in October of last year they started their very daunting marathon training program. James decided to run for the charity VICTA whilst being fully supported by Keri with the funding activities. The couple have not looked back (as that would be dangerous!) and had their first run which was like a scene from ‘Run Fat Boy Run’ with them both panting and struggling to breathe! But with dedication and perseverance they trained 3 days a week working up to their first ever charity organised run ‘Movember’ 10k. They were so thrilled to have completed this run, it gave them the strength to continue with their marathon training. Keri has endured one injury of the calf which did put a break in the training but they are back at it now and are in full swing. In the words of Kate Bush they are hoping to be running up that road, be running up that hill. With no problems! Please support James and Keri with their mammoth challenge by joining them for a fun evening of music, dance and food at the Hogs Head and help raise the vital funds for VICTA on March 17th.
