Wild Tots was started five years ago by two local mums – Sarah and Zoe – who feel passionately about helping families with young children to get outdoors regularly. “My children and I just needed a space outdoors where they could do their own creative play and I could meet other parents, so we created Wild Tots”, Zoe recalls. Originally based in the heart of the community in Gilwern, Wild Tots quickly gained a reputation for its welcoming atmosphere and for inspiring families to enjoy the freedom of outside play, whatever the weather.
Keen to support other interested communities and families to set up their own Wild sessions, Sarah and Zoe have created a Wild Framework that supports people to do just that. And now, Wild Tots is celebrating the launch of its newest group, led by newly trained Abergavenny parents Ellie and Kelly. Excited to be running her local group, Kelly is clear about the benefits for everyone of getting involved with Wild Tots: “I’ve just moved to the area and volunteering with Wild Tots is a great way for me to get to know the community of families in my area. My boy just loves being outdoors, getting involved with the camp routines, playing with the loose items and, of course, eating all the fire toast!”
Ellie and Kelly – assisted by two wild helpers, their young children – will be setting up a Wild Tots Camp at the secret gardens of Mardy Park Resource Centre, in Abergavenny on Wednesdays from 10:30 until 12ish throughout the year. You do not need to book in advance to come along to the Wild Camp and it costs just £3 per family. The Camp offers a regular opportunity to play, be creative, relax, have fun and share a snack around the fire together.
