Along the Mumbles Road by Sheila Edwards

Signs of the approaching festive season are appearing everywhere as the staff and volunteers at CRiC prepare to celebrate the magic of Christmas in Crickhowell. Both the gallery and the downstairs retail area are showcasing beautiful original gifts and seasonal inspiration in the tempting array of paintings, prints, ceramics, textiles, gifts, Welsh products, books and cards. To start off these celebrations, the gallery is hosting an exhibition entitled ‘Time for Tea’ (11 November – 10 December) in the CRiC Studio showcasing the work of popular artists including Jantien Powell, Jill Barneby, Liz Westcott and Tony Tribe. Alongside the paintings, ceramics and textiles, Jennifer Collier will share items from her fantastical world, where every exquisite detail is made, folded and manipulated from paper.

The gallery is delighted to welcome paintings by members of the Royal Watercolour Society of Wales to its “Christmas at CRiC” exhibition which will run in the oriel CRiC gallery upstairs at CRiC from 15 November until early January. In the spirit of the season, Rhian Symes, who has since 2008 been an elected member of the Society, is offering a number of her original paintings, prints and unmounted prints at reduced prices for the duration of the exhibition. This will be an opportunity for her many admirers and followers to enjoy a collection of some previously unseen work. Both these exhibitions will be a celebration of art and craftsmanship which is sure to delight visitors in the run up to the festive season. The gallery would like to extend an invitation to friends old and new for midday mulled wine and mince pies on 18 November. This popular event is a great way to get a head start on Christmas shopping or just enjoy the gallery’s hospitality.

Mulled drinks will also be on offer during Crickhowell’s Late Night Shopping evening on 7 December when CRiC’s community Christmas tree decorating competition will be in full swing. Community groups have for the past two years embraced the event and created truly beautiful trees for all to enjoy. There is no better time of the year to explore and enjoy the charm of Crickhowell.
