Grooming sessions will strengthen the bond with your dog, while keeping the skin and coat in tip top condition. Most dogs enjoy being brushed, especially if introduced to the process from an early age. For some breeds professional grooming is essential in order to keep the coat knot and tangle free, as well as keeping the dog cool in summer months.

The different dog breeds can be categorised into six coat types; wool, wire, silk, double, smooth and mixed. Each type requires different amounts of grooming and different tools in order to keep the dog looking and feeling their best. Ask your vet or dog groomer for advice on what coat type your dog is and what grooming tools to use.

If your dog has a skin, ear or nail condition, follow your veterinarian’s instructions regarding grooming your dog.

Born and bred in Abergavenny, Pawfection proprietor Meg started her dog grooming career in 2011. After graduating from Swansea University with a degree in zoology, she studied for her City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate in dog grooming. She began with a small salon on site of a boarding kennel in Pontypridd.

Having built a customer base in Abergavenny she took Pawfection mobile in a fully equipped van in 2012, grooming dogs in and around Monmouthshire. Meg’s client base has grown so much in recent years that she has opened up a salon on Station Road in Abergavenny.

With a permanent HQ for the business, Pawfection is now able to accommodate more dogs per day. The salon has specially made play pens, complete with fresh water, toys and comfy bedding, for dogs to wait for their owners at the end of the groom. Pawfection welcomes all breeds and cross breeds, feel free to pop in and have a look around!
