Local Artist to exhibit in major national Wildlife art exhibition. Work by Crickhowell based local artist, Martin Truefitt-Baker has been selected from over 800 submissions to appear alongside paintings by some of Britain’s leading wildlife artists. The exhibition will be on display at Mall Galleries in London between 19th and 29th October.
Martin, who used to teach art in a school in Merthyr, told the Focus that he is extremely excited to have a painting and lino print included in this important exhibition; “It has given me confidence to continue, and validates what I have been trying to do in my work. It also shows my art to a wider audience. I have already been encouraged and supported by the excellent local Cric gallery, who recently exhibited some of my work.”
During the past year, Martin has increasingly found himself incorporating into his work, the effects of the changing seasons on the local landscape and flora and fauna. Of the work due to be exhibited in London, he says: “The Magpie painting composed itself really, There were a large group of Magpies in the meddler tree in the garden making a lot of noise one snowy January day. I live opposite the Crug, so the background was the view from my studio window.
The design for the trout print took a couple of months to develop and is about the Brown Trout’s eye view of Crickhowell bridge and the plants and birds of the early spring.”
This annual exhibition, led by the Society of Wildlife Artists, has come to be recognised as the most prestigious and varied exhibition of wildlife art in the UK. Work covers a range of subject matter all inspired by the natural world.
