Focus Magazines is delighted to be a Media Partner to the Abergavenny Writing Festival this year. Organiser Lucie Parkin tells us more about the event in April

The Abergavenny Writing Festival is back for its second year. With events over three days and evenings on Thursday 20th, Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd April at the Kings Arms Hotel and Broadleaf Books in Abergavenny. The aim of the event is to get people together to get writing, be inspired and have fun! There will be workshops, readings, talks and performances for all ages and interests. There will be inspiring and motivating talks from writers including bestselling international novelist Julia Gregson; author, speaker and social entrepreneur Marie Yates and founder of Turn Lights On and book of the same name, Georgina Jones.

For the young ones there will be loads of activities, readings and stories. Children’s authors Nicola Davies, Sarah Hill, Bev Carr and Louby Lou’s Interactive Storytelling are all offering creative and imaginative writing and reading activities for the kids. The evenings will be all about kicking back and relaxing – listening to inspiring words and music. Performing on Saturday night will be Kizzy Crawford, Welsh speaking singer, songwriter and rapper, singer, song and scriptwriter Rufus Musafa. Poet and novelist Christopher Meredith will be reading at a special evening on Friday 21st April celebrating 24 years of Poetry Upstairs.

For visitors who would like to have a go themselves there will be a Haiku poetry workshop with Phil Madden and a mindfulness writing workshop with Tom George. The Abergavenny writing group ‘Writing for Fun’, which launched at the festival last year, will be hosting another session to which all are welcome. And BBC Countryfile magazine editor Fergus Collins will be back to offer more hints and tips to improve your writing. Abergavenny based author Stephanie Burgis will be giving a fantasy / science fiction writing workshop.

The Aber Writing Fest is supported for the 2nd year by founding sponsor Abergavenny estate agent Christie Residential.
