Following their summer break in August, members of Powys Brecknock W.I. soon returned to fund-raising when they were kindly allowed to pack customers’ bags at the Morrison store in Brecon.
This event was followed two weeks later, by a fashion show in Llangynidr Village Hall which was attended by a large gathering of W.I. Members and friends.
Entitled “Fashion with Accessories”, the show was staged by The Hat Shop and Morgan’s Boutique from Ross-on-Wye and was compèred  by their owner, Mrs Julie Evans. The models taking part were six farmers’ wives who had swapped their wellingtons for the evening with footwear that was certainly more ladylike.
The clothes being modelled were described by Mrs Evans as ‘Occasion to Wedding Wear’ and consisted of numerous dresses accompanied, in several cases, with jackets that were available in an assortment of sizes and styles. The models, obviously enjoying their time on the catwalk, were extremely busy continually changing in and out of outfits as were the two dressers behind the scenes.

Following the interval, when the room raffle took place, the second half of the show certainly held the audience’s attention as the models again appeared wearing beautiful outfits but this time with added accessories. Hats, fascinators, hatinators together with matching handbags and shoes were the order of the day and certainly provided some very good ideas for future shopping.

At the end of the evening, the County Chairman thanked Mrs Evans and her workers for the wonderful fashion show she had provided and following a buffet provided by the Board of Trustees everyone left the hall obviously satisfied.
