What is a Play Café? It’s a ‘come when you’re ready’ morning for parents and babies in the relaxed surroundings of Deb’s Kitchen set in The Courtyard just up Standard Street, Crickhowell.
Wonderful though it is, the reality of becoming a new parent can come as a shock. You may have been quite senior in the job you left a few weeks ago and now your new boss, though only tiny, expects you to be on call 24/7 and doesn’t even allow bathroom breaks. You’re tired, your hormones are all at sea (or if you are Dad, you’re coping with hers!) and you need to learn a whole lot of new skills – fast. Those of us blessed with children have all been there!
Come along to Deb’s Kitchen on a Wednesday morning and meet up with other parents. You’ll be greeted with complimentary tea and toast, so no need to have breakfast first. You’ll find other bleary eyed parents with beautiful bundles of joy, keen to share their experiences and hear yours. There are experts on hand to help with breastfeeding problems and occasionally someone will be chatting on relevant topics like how to choose and use a baby sling, baby signing, home safety etc.
Between 10.30 and 11.30 Rhyme Time will have you singing those half remembered nursery rhymes, old and new action songs and listening to a story, complete with pictures and props – even if your precious one is taking a poorly timed nap!
Before you go you could relax on the settees, or outside in the gazebo, with a ‘Victory Special’ which is coffee and cake for the very reasonable price of £2, while your little angel samples our sensory play toys.
Of course, even if this is not your first baby, you and baby’s big brothers and sisters are very welcome too. Come and share your tips.
The morning is being organised by mums and grandmas from Victory Church, Crickhowell.
We’ll be there every Wednesday morning in term time and look forward to meeting you.
