I tasted these lovely squares at a village fete I recently attended. I thought they were delicious so I asked the lady who baked them for the recipe. Not something that you would want to eat every day but certainly a lovely weekend treat.

Ingredients:

  • 84g softened butter
  • 180g brown sugar
  • 3 eggs (beaten)
  • 320g Self raising flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 154g Oreo biscuits, crushed
  • 70g white chocolate chips
  • 70g milk chocolate chips
  1. Preheat oven 170C/150Fan/Gas mark 3
  2. Line a baking tin approx 13”x9” with foil
  3. Cream butter and sugar together with mixer
  4. Gradually beat in eggs together with the vanilla extract until well combined
  5. Add half of the flour together with the baking powder and salt, beat together with a wooden spoon, add the remaining flour (the mixture will be quite stiff)
  6. Fold in the crushed Oreo biscuits and chocolate chips
  7. Press the dough into the baking tin until evenly distributed
  8. Bake in the oven for 25-35 minutes until lightly browned and a skewer comes out clean
  9. Cut into desired pieces and cool
