For the fourth year running, neighbours in the Cantref area of Abergavenny will be opening their garden gates on June 12th to raise money for the national charity, Target Ovarian Cancer.

Some 12 gardens will be open this year, all packed full of colour and ideas to steal.  If having a good nose in other people’s gardens is not enough, some gardens will also be serving tea and cake, as will the church on North Street.

Indeed, Christchurch church half way up North Street will be a focal point for the day. As well as ticket sales, other attractions at the church will include a tombola, raffle, plant sale, and cake stall. Last year’s vegetable monsters proved to be a big hit with everyone, along with the dinosaur hunt to keep the children busy in each garden. This year we’re adding to the fun with other activities.

In 2012 Lizzy Timpson, a North Street resident, wanted to show her support for Target Ovarian Cancer following the death of two family members from this dreadful illness.  Opening her garden in their memory was a good way to raise money, and she persuaded her neighbours to join her.  The event has spread. This year you can even venture up Pentre Lane where the pizza oven will be fired up.

The event starts at 11.30am on Sunday 12th June 2016.  So grab your family and friends and head to Christchurch on North Street (or start at any of the participating gardens en route with white and purple balloons outside) and share in the fun for a good cause.

If you’d like to know more, or even better, are able to join-in, ‘like’ our facebook page “Cantref Open Gardens”. Help on the day, cakes, plants, and prizes would be most welcome!
