The National Eisteddfod is coming to Abergavenny in a few months’ time – so why not get involved and give volunteering a go?
The Eisteddfod is one of the largest volunteering opportunities in Wales. Every year, hundreds of people from all over the country donate their most valuable asset – their own time – to help and support the festival and its community work.
It’s a great opportunity for local people to get involved. The festival attracts lots of brand new volunteers from the vicinity annually – and lots of people enjoy the experience so much that they come back year after year as part of the team.
Organisers are currently identifying roles and volunteering opportunities. One of the most popular roles is stewarding. The Eisteddfod needs around 150 stewards during the festival to make sure the week runs smoothly.
You could be working in the Pavilion, or one of the smaller buildings dotted around the Maes or even in the Visitors’ Centre during your shift – one thing’s for certain, you’ll meet plenty of people and you’ll have a busy and fulfilling day.
You don’t have to speak Welsh to volunteer as a steward. We’ll be pairing volunteers who don’t speak Welsh or aren’t very confident in Welsh with Welsh speakers during their shifts. We’ll also be offering Welsh language taster sessions for volunteers as part of the training day. The training will be held locally in July.
We’re also looking for local people to get involved in the awareness raising and fundraising work across the whole of Monmouthshire over the next few months – it’s a great way to get involved with your local community and raise money for the festival in a fun and very social way.

The Eisteddfod is held on Castle Meadows from 29 July – 6 August and tickets go on sale on 1 April.
