The dark nights of winter will become a little darker this January in Abergavenny Borough Theatre. Amateur dramatics group ‘Abergavenny Theatre Group’ are currently in rehearsal for their own original adaption of Bram Stocker’s classic horror novel ‘Dracula’.

Written by ‘ATG’ member and published author Fiona Angwin, this chilling tale is set to delight and fright audiences over a three night run in the Borough Theatre on the 28th, 29th and 30th of January. Fiona is a huge fan of the novel, and has always wanted to write her own adaption of the story, as she has found other theatrical adaptations of Stoker’s tale have often missed what she feels is the true message of this gothic legend. This version explores the incorruptible nature of friendship as the characters battle against the vampire, Count Dracula, to try to save those dearest to them.

ATG also have another treat in store for their Dracula audience, with the chance to come along and ‘meet the bats’ before the show. Stories like Dracula have given a slightly negative view on bats, and fed some people’s fear of them. So ATG and the Borough Theatre have arranged to have some live, non-flying rescue bats in the balcony foyer before the show, so audience members can have a chance to see some of these charming creatures close up. The experience is only available before the show (6.50 – 7.20), so make sure you get there early if you wish to see them.

2016 will see ATG celebrating the lead up their 50th year. Over the last half century they have put on some amazing productions, ranging from Shakespeare’s ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ Noel Cowards ‘Blithe Spirit’ and Terry Pratchett’s City Watch series ‘Guards Guards’.

So with growing numbers, and a golden anniversary to celebrate, 2016 is looking like its going to be a wonderful year for ATG. We hope you can join them in their celebrations, starting with the deliciously dark, gothic tale of an aristocratic vampire, stalking the coasts of Whitby and the streets of London. You can book tickets online now or by ringing the Borough Theatre Box Office on 01873 850805.
