In September 2015, Gwent Volunteer Police Cadets opened another unit in Abergavenny.  Cadets are a group of young people aged between 13 and 19 years of age that volunteer their time to learn about policing, community engagement, citizenship and personal development.

The Unit is run from Deri View Primary School, every Thursday between 5:30pm and 7:30pm during school term times by PC Angela Jones, Senior Cadet Instructor and assisted by CSO Kim Parry and PSV Dan Cooke.

police-cadets2Cadets have to do a minimum of 3 hours volunteering each month as part of the National Cadet Programme and get involved in local projects, such as helping at the community garden in Goytre, helping clear woodland for a local military madness event as well as doing team building and drill within their unit.

They have a twitter site @gppolicecadets where you can see some of the activities and engagement that takes place.

Applications for Cadets will opening again soon.  Please check Gwent Police website for details.
