Are you looking for somewhere to take the family at the end of August? Are you thinking of somewhere not too far away? Perhaps this is the answer…Llangynidr Show!
Llangynidr Show is held annually on the Sunday before the Bank Holiday and this year falls on 30th August. It is held in the middle of the village in the playing field and adjacent fields. The scenery is amazing – and so is the Show!
This really is a day out for everyone as there are things to do and see all day. Come along and see the best sheep, of many breeds, that the area has to show. Come along to watch Show Jumping and Horse Classes. There are cattle classes too! If you are a bit wary of animals then don’t panic – we have the tallest thistle and longest nettle competitions. There will be walking sticks of all different styles on show. And, of course, you mustn’t miss the Dog Show – who couldn’t enjoy Class 7: Best Six Legs? Or Class 18: The Saddest Eyes? In the Family Pets competition we will be looking for The Scruffiest Pet and The Pet with the Biggest Ears. No, sorry, you can’t enter the kids in this class. Aside from the animal classes, be sure to have a look around at the various Land Rover competitions or the Vintage Tractors and Implements.
The striped marquee will hold the Farmers’ and Producers’ Market. Here you will find everything under one roof – quite literally – cheese, bread, pies, meats, weaving, cards, crafts, chocolate, Fair Trade stalls and lots more. Come and have a wander around.
If you think that this sounds interesting then read on! There will be shearing demonstrations – just how do they take the fleece off a sheep? There will be spinning demonstrations showing how the fleece is transformed to workable thread.
The kids will find plenty to keep them happy too from bouncy castle and trampolines to assault course and quad bikes. Sounds good? What about the good old-fashioned coconut shy? There will be lots going on – come and join in or watch others having fun!
The gates will open at 9am and the Show will be opened by Trebor Edwards – the Welsh Tenor. It’s guaranteed to be a good day out for everyone so come along to Llangynidr Show (SatNav NP8 1LS) on Sunday 30 August.
