Holiday Fun at Abergavenny Museum and Castle

If you are looking for something to do this summer then come and see us at Abergavenny Museum and Castle.  Our latest exhibition ‘Weaving WellBEEing’ is all about how we are working to be a ‘Happy Museum’ and what we have been doing with local groups.

There have been lots of developments in the basement, with our recently refurbished ‘air raid shelter’.  Thanks to a grant from ‘Gwanwyn a festival run by Age Concern which celebrates creativity in old age we introduced pupils from King Henry VIII School, to older residents from the area to talk about their experiences of World War II.  Together they developed activities for our visitors to find out more about this fascinating era.  Then turn the corner and find out about our Welsh Kitchen through mystery objects and stories from our characters.

In the Keep, delve into our dressing up box and pretend to be someone from long ago, using our handling objects as props.  If it’s the Castle you want to find out more about, ask to borrow one of our castle back packs, where you will find activities, medieval style objects and binoculars to get a better look at the ruins.  Don’t forget our natural willow area – a great place for a picnic.

Entrance to the museum and the above activities are all free of charge.

If you love theatre then come and see Mr Stink on Wednesday 12th August at 4pm.  Tickets are available in advance from the Museum 01873 854282 or on the gate.  £12 adults, £7 children, £35 (2 adults + 2 children).
