deiceRoads policing officers are reminding motorists to take appropriate action before travelling in their vehicles on frosty winter mornings.

It’s important that cars are fit and safe to be driven in what can be challenging driving conditions.

“You’d be surprised at the number of motorists we encounter who have not properly defrosted or demisted their windscreens and I’m amazed that drivers would take such risks,” said Sergeant Craig Morgan. “By not allowing time to properly demist and defrost windscreens, these drivers are putting themselves, other road users and potentially pedestrians at risk.

“Your visibility is severely impaired with a frosted and misted windscreen. Officers will be out across the county in the coming wintry weather and we will be actively enforcing legislation of drivers who don’t have ‘a proper view ahead’.

“This can carry a minimum of £100 fine and three penalty points on your licence. But it could prove life changing if you’re involved in any collisions.

“So please, allow yourselves a couple extra minutes to sit with your car and make sure you have a clear view out of every window, but don’t leave your car running unattended.”
