The onset of autumn has been marked in Crickhowell’s Oriel CRiC Gallery by a particularly vibrant “By Invitation” exhibition and a programme of creative activity. Earlier this month Folk Musicians from X’ian Shaanxi, delighted visitors withl music and a calligraphy demonstration complemented by art by – four artists from X’ian whose work has been curated by Robin Martin.

Alongside gallery regulars  visiting artists are showing an exciting mix of painting, printmaking, digital art, ceramics and sculpture. Doug Eaton, Mariette Voke and Graham Wilde have added colour and vibrancy.work.

The work by two digital artists who work in very different styles have elicited much discussion by visitors. Ian Gorton seeks to challenge traditional concepts of photography and painting presenting engaging, accessible works using his original photographs as a starting point.   Digital artist Joseph Connor shares his enjoyment of the great outdoors by painting outside on his iPad & iPhone.   Joseph was honoured in early September when World Leaders attending the NATO Summit were given one of his limited edition signed prints by the UK government.

The gallery’s autumn programme of creative demonstrations, talks and workshops has included Kay Leverton, who shared how she creates her intricate scraperboard images. It will be followed by a workshop with  textile artist Ann Notley teaching  her amazing stumpwork embroidery techniques.

On 2 November contemporary poets Graham Hartill and Frank Olding will read their own work and celebrate the poetry of Taliesin whose  verse will be read both in the original Welsh and in translation with an exhibition of related paintings by Tim Rossiter.  Supported by Literature Wales tickets are available from the Oriel CRiC Gallery.

This seasonal exhibition marks another highlight in the gallery’s successful 2014 programme. The exhibition will continue until 23 November and will be followed by the popular ‘Christmas at CRiC’ exhibition.
