CONVERSATIONS AT THE CHAPEL –ABERGAVENNY – PETER TATCHELL – WEDNESDAY 21 FEBRUARY – 7.30 – £13.00
February is LGBTQ+ History Month. To celebrate this our guest is activist and campaigner Peter Tatchell who has worked to defend and protect the LGBTQ+ community for decades, often in the most difficult and dangerous situations.
Peter was a leading activist in the Gay Liberation Front 1971-74 and in the queer human rights group OutRage! 1990-2011. He helped organise and publicise the UK’s first Pride parade, in London on 1 July 1972 and has marched with every Pride London since then.
After playing a prominent role in the London chapter of the AIDS activist group ACT UP, in 1990 he and 30 other people jointly founded the radical queer human rights direct action movement OutRage!
He attempted a citizen’s arrest of President Mugabe in the lobby of the Hilton Hotel in Brussels in March 2001, which resulted in him being beaten unconscious by Mugabe’s bodyguards, suffering permanent minor eye and brain damage.
To this day he is still campaigning with the same courage and determination.
Ticket sales for this evening go to The Peter Tatchell Foundation that promotes and safeguards human rights in the UK and internationally.
