Concert – Beyond Borders Quartet Upstairs at the Chapel Friday 30th October 2026, 8pm

Experience an extraordinary meeting of four exceptional musicians, united by creativity, collaboration and innovation.

At the heart of the quartet are acclaimed American jazz guitarist Jay Azzolina and renowned Welsh acoustic guitarist Dylan Fowler. Bringing together their distinctive musical voices, they create an exciting dialogue between jazz, folk, contemporary music, and global traditions. Joining them are outstanding South Wales jazz musicians Aidan Thorne (double bass) and Mark O’Connor (percussion). Together, the quartet form a highly responsive ensemble in which rhythm, melody, harmony and texture evolve constantly.

The quartet’s music draws on a lifetime of diverse influences, from the sophisticated and spontaneous language of jazz through narrative traditions of folk to rhythms and sounds garnered from around the globe. Rather than being confined by genre, the musicians use these influences as a starting point for exploration, allowing each performance to develop instinctively. The result is expressive melodies, inventive improvisation, compelling grooves, intricate interplay and moments of exhilarating unpredictability. Every performance is a unique musical conversation, as four individual voices listen, respond and inspire one another in real time, creating an experience that lingers long after the final note.
