Every year more than 400 women attend the Women in Wales Luncheon to celebrate the immense contribution women in Wales make to business, medicine, charity, the arts and much more.
The Luncheon is being held on Friday 4th April at the SWALEC stadium, Cardiff. The theme for the event is Ladies Day at the Races. Presented by Jayne James, Women in Wales committee member and former BBC Wales newsreader and hosted by the Women in Wales committee, it will certainly be an afternoon to remember.
A drinks reception will be followed by a welcome performance from Howell’s School, a delicious 3-course lunch, a stunning show of hats by celebrity couture milliner Alison Tod and in keeping with the theme this year’s guest speaker is legendary jockey, Bob Champion MBE. There will be fundraising activities with fabulous raffle prizes, silent and live auction items and the Luncheon will end with a performance by ‘Only Four Men Aloud’.
Wendy Bailey is Chairwoman of the Women in Wales committee and has been part of the event for a number of years.
“Our Luncheon is now in its 22nd year and every year we are so grateful to individuals and organisations who give with such generosity towards sponsorship and our raffle and auction. It means so much to us as a committee to be able to create such a prestigious event and to raise so much money for such a deserving charity as Save the Children. Last year we raised £30,000 which we hope to exceed this year.
We have planned a fantastic event this year and it’s a chance for all the ladies attending to dust off their hats or to get creative and make their own hats to be judged by Alison Tod on the day.”
This year Women in Wales hopes to raise money to fund Save the Children’s work in Wales and money will go directly to the Eat Sleep Learn and Play programme which supports children living in the most severe poverty. Save the Children provide their families with household essentials like a child’s bed, a family cooker or educational books and toys. Save the Children reached more than 2,640 children here in Wales in 2013.
