Responding to comments last winter about the lack of Christmas lights in Llangattock, a small group of local residents got together to see what could be done. Out of that initial sharing of ideas, Llangattock Village Society was born, with the aim of cherishing and strengthening community bonds.

Helen Burns, one of the trustees of the Society: “Our first project was to “Light up Llangattock” by providing a Christmas tree at the Recreation Ground, and the most expensive part of the operation was to install electricity to power the lights. Fundraising was difficult, as we were unable to hold events due to the pandemic. Most of the money we needed came via a Justgiving page, and from local businesses who responded to direct emails. Our thanks go to all individuals and local businesses for their generosity as well as to the Community Council, who gave £500 to the fund. This project couldn’t have happened without everyone who contributed, whether by donating money or by providing advice, support and practical help.

We’d particularly like to thank David Taylor Garages, Llangattock, for sponsoring the lights, and Llangenny Christmas Tree farm for supplying the tree.”

Llangattock’s Christmas tree will be lit up at 6pm on 1st December. Other seasonal celebrations include Llangattock Winter Windows, a window decorating competition sponsored by As You See It Media, Llangattock, and a New Year’s Day village walk and lunch.
