Well here we are folks – December all over again! Where did that year go? It’s been a very busy one for us here at the Focus with plenty of challenges, lessons and reasons to celebrate along the way.
But the year is not quite over, and December is all about celebrating the festive season with those we love and extending the hand of friendship and charity to those who are less fortunate. I think our community is pretty brilliant – on a day to day basis I hear about people helping one another, whether they know each other or not, united by the simple fact that we live in the same place. Community spirit truly is alive and well here, and it’s one of the reasons why I’m so happy to call this area my home.
It’s really easy to get bogged down with the stress and expectations of Christmas isn’t it? Everywhere we turn we are being encouraged to spend spend spend, eat eat eat, indulge, spend some more; it’s exhausting. This year we, as a family, are trying to strip away the unnecessary stress and poverty inducing elements of Christmas. Yes, we want to show loved ones that we care, but not to the point where we have to survive on baked beans throughout 2019! So, we are concentrating on spending time with our loved ones, not buying stuff just for the sake of it (ever mindful of things ending up in landfill) and keeping in mind what’s important; that the people we love are here, they are healthy, and we get to spend some time laughing and relaxing with them.
We can’t end this year without thanking you, our readers, for being with us month in month out, offering your fabulous feedback about how much you enjoy the magazine. And naturally, we must thank our advertisers for their unwavering loyalty and support of the Focus, which is truly local and independent and put together each month by just myself and Pete with a great deal of love and care. We truly hope it’s reflected in the magazines we deliver to you every month.
