“If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need.”
Cicero
Recent visitors to Crickhowell Library may have noticed some changes outside. A group of enthusiastic volunteers has cleared an unloved and underused space to create a community garden. With support from Crickhowell High School, Crickhowell District and Community Partnership, the Friends of Crickhowell Library and the Percy Davis Trust, the group has added picnic tables, a bench and pollinator friendly planting.
The garden has a home-made feel with planters made out of pallets, and a repurposed cabinet used as a bug house. On a recent open day in late July, volunteers of all ages painted signs, spread bark, planted herbs and filled the bug house. The aim is for people to get involved and add their own personal touch to the garden.
Chair of the Friends of Crickhowell Library, Eliane Wigzell said “It’s been a lot of fun working on this project with such enthusiastic volunteers. And we’ve been delighted by the positive comments we have had, and by the offers of help and plants. This space is for everyone and we hope it will develop as a place to sit, read and chat as well as providing space for community activities.
More garden activity days are planned for the future and if you’d like to find out more email friendsofcricklibrary@gmail.com
