Free Cakes For Kids UK is a not for profit community service that helps economically and/or socially disadvantaged families in the UK provide a birthday cake for their child when they would otherwise find it difficult to do so.
We work with a number of community projects, charities and organisations that are already working with those people who would benefit from this service.
The Abergavenny Group was set up by Lesley Ball in June 2012 and at present the group covers Abergavenny, Monmouth, Chepstow and Merthyr Tydfil.
How Does It Work?
Our talented team of bakers respond to individual requests as and when they arrive. They bake in their own homes, pay for the ingredients themselves and deliver the cake in time for the child’s birthday, either to the home or to another suitable location. They will even do their best to incorporate the child’s favourite theme or style for the cake. Referrals generally come to us via a support worker through the project that the family or child has contact with. There’s a short referral form to complete that helps us assess eligibility but it’s a really simple and friendly service and, of course, completely confidential.
The organisations we work with include, Women’s Aid, Llamau, Monmouthshire Housing, Barnardo’s, Melin Home, and Abergavenny Food Bank.
If you belong to an organisation who you think might be able to use our services, please contact Lesley Ball at abergavennyfreecakesforkids@gmail.com. Follow us on Twitter @abercakes4kids For further information about us please see our website www.freecakesforkids.org.uk/
