Focus Magazines The local magazines for Abergavenny, Crickhowell, Brecon & Talgarth – Events, News and Advertising

A dementia friendly community is made up of the whole community – shop assistants, public service workers, faith groups, businesses, police, fire and ambulance staff, bus drivers, school pupils, clubs and societies, and community leaders – people who are committed to working together and helping people with dementia to remain a part of their community and not feeling excluded from it.

This involves learning a little about dementia and doing very simple and practical things that can make an enormous difference to people living with the condition.

The concept of a Dementia Friendly Community is focussed on how to reduce stigma, raise awareness and inspire action. Across the principality more and more communities are coming forward to say they want to get involved.

Aims

To improve the lives of people with dementia and their carers in the area, by developing greater awareness and understanding of dementia issues in our community.

Through organisations and individuals in our community joining together and with support from the Alzheimer’s Society and Dementia Matters Powys we are confident that we can create a dementia-friendly town

Where there is a greater awareness and understanding of dementia individuals living with the condition can remain independent, having choice and control over their lives.

Dementia Friendly Communities also recognise how important it is for carers, family and friends to be, and feel, supported and able to find the advice and help they need.

There will be a Dementia Friends Information Session held on May 9th 2017 at 7pm in St. Edmund’s Church, Church Lane, Crickhowell NP8 1BB. For FREE IN-HOUSE training of staff please contact Ian Thomas (07734779719)
