Crickhowell Choral Society Early May Music Festival 27th April to 1st May
As Spring arrives, what better than to head to The Manor Hotel in Crickhowell on 27 April for classy jazz vibes and groovy soul from The Miroshnichenko Band! Currently studying jazz at Cardiff’s Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, the band is already receiving attention for its accomplished style, with something to appeal to everyone. Be prepared to dance the night away!
St. Catwg’s Church in Llangattock is the venue for an afternoon recital on 29 April by two leading exponents of Renaissance and Baroque lute songs, Catherine King (mezzo) and Jacob Heringman (lute). Their CD recordings have received much critical acclaim. Included will be music by John Dowland, French airs and Spanish songs, complemented by settings of Renaissance poetry by the composer Peter Pope. Afterwards there will be an informal tea and chat with the artists. This concert is supported by the Arts Council of Wales’ Night Out/Noson Allan scheme.
This year the main concerts are on Sunday and Monday, a change to the usual format. Be prepared for a dream team of soloists! On Sunday 30 April Catherine, a Crickhowell favourite, will be joined by Grace Davidson (soprano) and Nicholas Mulroy (tenor), all of whom enjoy international reputations. Grace has performed at the Wigmore Hall, Amsterdam Concertgebouw and St. John’s Smith Square. Nicholas has collaborated with Sir John Eliot Garner and the Gabrieli Consort and sung in Sydney Opera House, New York’s Carnegie Hall and Glyndebourne. The programme includes Vivaldi’s Gloria RV588 and Handel’s Birthday Ode for Queen Anne. On Monday 1 May two of the choir’s choral scholars, Lowri Probert and Tomos Jones, will join them and Grace and Nicholas in Mozart’s spectacular Coronation Mass, Haydn’s Te Deum and CPE Bach’s Heilig (Sanctus). Lowri is in her first year at the Royal Northern College of Music and Tomos will be heading to the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in the autumn. Come and join Crickhowell Choral Society over the weekend and give your senses a Spring treat!
