In September next year, a group of eight local midwives from Nevill Hall hospital will climb onto their bikes to take part in a London to Paris cycle ride.
This will be part of a women’s only event to raise money for the umbrella charity; Women V Cancer which raises funds to fight breast, cervical and ovarian cancers. The challenge will see the group of midwives, pictured above, cycle approximately 240 miles in just three days! The ride will take them through the rolling English countryside and breath-taking panorama of Northern France, to a spectacular finish at the Eiffel Tower.
Cancer is a disease that affects many of us and the team feels passionately about raising as much money as they can for the cause. Not only will the team have a great deal of work to do to ready themselves for the physical challenge, but they also hope to raise £14,000 for the charity – all this on top of the incredible work they do in their day-to-day jobs.
Although the event won’t take place until September 2018, the team has already begun fundraising efforts by running a soup and cake stall at Abergavenny Cycle Club events. They hope to run a similar stall during the Three Peaks Challenge on 25th March, so be sure to look out for them if you’re attending! Many more fundraising events are planned such as car boot sales, a Sausage & Mash and Live Music night, a Teddy Bears’ Picnic and perhaps even a Calendar Girl project! Watch this space for more information about that!
The midwives – collectively known as the Delivery Girls – are extremely grateful to family, friends, community members and colleagues who have already been so actively supportive of the project. If you would like to follow the team’s progress and keep abreast of planned fundraising events, please follow them on Facebook by searching ‘Delivery Girls’. You can also donate by visiting their Just Giving page: www.justgiving.com/teams/deliverygirls
Here at the Focus we wish the team every success and look forward to publicising fundraising events and offering our support in whatever way we can! Good Luck!
