Focus Magazines The local magazines for Abergavenny, Crickhowell, Brecon & Talgarth – Events, News and Advertising

Last month we launched a fundraising campaign here at Abergavenny Community Centre to raise money for the refurbishment of our kitchen. As you can see in the photo, there is great potential but we need skills and money to realise it. The Community Kitchen is a grass roots project – it is for you, for your neighbours, for the whole community.

The Community Kitchen will create a food, friendship, learning and teaching centre for our community.

Plans include:

  • an affordable weekly lunch using local produce
  • a monthly World Café
  • teaching nutrition
  • transferring skills and knowledge to a new generation
  • hospitality skills training for young people
  • professional kitchen hire
  • function hire with in-house catering
  • …and much more

Please help us!

The centre has raised £4000 towards the project, which means that some of the work can begin. Now, we are looking to raise a further £4000 from the public. Are you able to help?

If you are able to donate a few pounds towards the Community Kitchen project, we would be very grateful. You can do this online at www.abergavennycc.org and click on ‘Donate’. Or, you can pop in to the centre, with cash or a cheque.

If you are a builder, kitchen fitter, plumber, carpenter, electrician, labourer, or someone with skills to give, or you are a local business who might be interested in sponsoring this project, please get in touch.

Recently, a local professional flautist, Catherine Handley, joined up with harpist Hugh Webb to perform a fundraising concert at the centre, which raised £300 towards the Community Kitchen. If you would like to put on a fundraising event, we will support you in any way we can.

“It was an amazing concert. The first opportunity I’d ever had to experience music like that. It was a very moving concert and for such a worthwhile cause”.
