How far would you go to get your wish? That is the question VIG Theatre Company will be asking this July in the Borough Theatre, Abergavenny.
The multi-award-winning company, which has been running for 14 years, is this year tackling Stephen Sondheim’s twisted tale, Into The Woods.
Into The Woods intertwines the stories of several well-known fairytale characters as they go to any length possible to achieve their greatest wish. For the Baker and his wife; a much longed for child. For the witch; the return of her youth and beauty. For Cinderella; the chance to go to the ball and meet the Prince.
The first act sees our intrepid heroes conquering the woods and making their dreams come true. But by the beginning of the act two, we start to see that dreams coming true doesn’t necessarily mean eternal happiness.
Directed by Emma-Jayne Morris and Lisa-Marie Williams, this is VIG’s most challenging production to date having tackled such greats as The Witches of Eastwick, Jesus Christ Superstar and Avenue Q in recent years. Emma said, “Every year we try to push ourselves and our cast even further, always striving for excellence – and this year, we’ve really set ourselves a challenge”. Fresh from their victory at the National Operatic and Dramatic Association awards in May where they came home from with the award for Best Production 2015 for Avenue Q, the cast are hugely excited for Into The Woods.
Emma continued, “We feel that this year’s cast is one of the strongest we’ve ever had. We have cast members from Monmouthshire, the Forest of Dean, Newport, Torfaen and Blaenau Gwent – all of whom have gelled together incredibly well. We can’t wait for the show!”
Into The Woods is being performed on Thursday 14th, Friday 15th and Saturday 16th July at the Borough Theatre Abergavenny. Tickets £11 (£9 Concessions) are available from the Box Office on 01873 850805 or online at www.boroughtheatreabergavenny.co.uk
