A new year brings new music, new players and new challenges to Monmouth Concert Orchestra who are thrilled to welcome a cluster of new players to swell their ranks.

The orchestra is now well established numbering some 50 regular players, many of whom had not picked up their instruments in decades, in many cases, since leaving school! The orchestra gives them an opportunity to dust down and tune up those old instruments and get back up to speed.

Their Musical Director, Mr. David J Davies, keeps the players on their toes with an eclectic repertoire of music, where a medley of show tunes sits comfortably alongside some of the more popular classics.

“We like to play what people want to hear, and we love to play what people want to sing along to!”

Following the success of their Christmas Concert at Llandogo Village Hall, Monmouth Concert Orchestra are starting to prepare a new programme of music for the Spring concert on 14th May 2016.

But an additional challenge for 2016 is to apply for the BBC Great British Amateur Orchestra, which sounds like it could be an orchestral version of The Great British Bake Off, culminating in the opportunity to play in an epic venue!

If you are tempted to come and make music at our fortnightly Friday evenings of light-hearted harmony then feel free to contact our secretary, Christine on 01600 860224 or visit our website www.moncomm.co.uk

We would be particularly delighted to welcome trumpeters, oboists, percussionists, cellists and viola players.
