Abergavenny Community Centre is hosting a new Hear to Meet monthly social and support group for people who have hearing loss. Hear to Meet is a volunteer-led project run by Action on Hearing Loss Cymru and funded by the Big Lottery.
The Hear to Meet group is a chance to get support and to find new ways to manage hearing loss – enabling people to keep in contact with friends, families and their local community.
Abergavenny resident, Keith Young, is a volunteer for Action on Hearing Loss Cymru and helps to run some of their groups. Like so many others, he suddenly experienced deafness. This forced him to give up work, but he found the confidence to become a volunteer instead. He said:
“The Hear to Meet groups give people with hearing loss an opportunity to meet, chat and exchange experiences in a relaxed and friendly setting. I encourage anyone with hearing loss in and around Abergavenny to come along – it’s free, friendly and will provide useful information, including strategies for coping with deafness and tinnitus”.
The next Abergavenny Hear to Meet will take place on Thursday 31 March at Abergavenny Community Street in Park Street, from 2 – 4pm. All people with hearing loss, and companions, are welcome.
