Community benefit group will be holding a public event at St Michael’s Centre on Monday 15th February, 3pm-9pm
A new group which has been formed to help develop the prosperity of Abergavenny and district, will be officially launching this February and is inviting those living in the town and surrounding area to come along to find out more about their vision and plans.
Team Abergavenny was formed in 2015 by a group of volunteers with both public and business backgrounds. They all have one thing in common – they believe that they can help make Abergavenny and the area even greater still.
The group has been set up as a non-profit company and has a focus on:
- Increasing the prosperity of the area, particularly through tourism, food and drink
- Communication and bringing people together, including existing community, business, environmental and social groups
- Collaborative projects that engage people from all walks of life in helping to make Abergavenny and the surrounding area a great place to visit, work and live
- Fundraising opportunities that are open to active community groups but not available to the Council
Team Abergavenny Spokesman, David Straker says: “Abergavenny and the surrounding area is a wonderful place for residents and visitors alike, with great shopping, geography and history plus a strong reputation in areas such as food and cycling.
“But, sadly, Monmouthshire continues to be in the front line for government cuts and there is much that we can no longer take for granted. To sustain our prosperity, we must keep working to make Abergavenny a great place to visit, attracting people to the area and helping them to have such a great time that they want to return. It’s no coincidence that one of the ways we can do this is to make it a great place to live, too!”
At the launch, which will take place on Monday 15th February at St Michael’s Centre, the team’s founder members will be on hand to talk about Team Abergavenny and to share their vision on how people in the town can work ‘better, together’. The event starts at 3pm and ends at 9pm. Tea and coffee will be served throughout the day, and there will be formal presentations at 3.30pm and 7.30pm.
Team Abergavenny will be also holding another event in March to help bring like-minded people together who want to make a difference and get involved with the work of Team Abergavenny. To find out more please come along to the launch event!
