The First Crickhowell Literary Festival will take place this year between 4th – 11th October.
Initially conceived as a three day event, the wealth of local talent and the willingness of writers from throughout the UK to take part, has lead to a busy week-long programme.
Deborah Moggach whose novel These Foolish Things was adapted for the screen as The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, will be talking at the festival
The Festival features something for everyone – there will be lots of talks – on books, poetry, art, sport and politics; and there will be readings, stories, interviews, debates, candle-lit literary suppers, creative writing workshops and wholesome walks. There’ll even be a Mad Hatter¹s tea-party to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Alice in Wonderland. Each generation will be able to share in the activities and enjoy the party atmosphere.
So far the eight day programme features Owen Sheers, Deborah Moggach, Mary Lawson, Paul Henry, Philip Gross, Jasper Fforde, Horatio Clare and Chris Meredith to name but a few of the writers, journalists, poets and politicians that will appear.
We hope that the Crickhowell Literary festival will bring opportunities for learning and pleasure to the entire community. We hope to see the festival develop into a popular annual event that not only promotes Crickhowell as a cultural destination but also showcases what we, as a town, can offer the wider world throughout the year.
