At Mardy Park Resource Centre, we’ve identified that Abergavenny could do better to support people who have been affected by strokes. We have been working with Luisa Stokes who works for Stroke Association Monmouthshire to develop a local stroke support group at Mardy Park. In doing so, we hope that we can offer people in Abergavenny a place of support and positive reflection.
“Every year there are approximately 152,000 strokes in the UK; that’s one stroke every three and a half minutes. Most people affected are over 65, but anyone can have a stroke; including children and even babies. It can have a huge effect on you and your family” Stroke Association UK.
Stroke clubs are a great way feel supported by your community. They promote open and honest discussions about life as a stroke survivor and encourage people to share stories about their experiences. The Stroke Association has found that stroke clubs and groups help members to socialise, rediscover skills and live better lives. We are holding a coffee morning at Mardy Park. It will be a chance to have a cup of coffee and meet the members of your community who have in some way been affected by a stroke. Here you will have the opportunity to meet new people, help raise awareness locally and rediscover your confidence. Coffee morning is from 10:30 – 12:30 at Mardy Park Resource Centre, Hereford Road, Abergavenny, NP7 6EH.
We look forward to meeting you.
