Principal, Lesley Walker tells us about the range of classes available for budding performers at Ribbons Ballet School – a large, privately run dance school, based in Brecon, founded in 1995 with over 200 pupils.

Ribbons offers Ballet and Tap classes for children from age 3 upwards. Our senior branch, Mid Wales Dance Academy, offers classes for senior pupils in Ballet, Tap, Modern/Jazz, Street/Hip Hop, Boys only ballet classes and Musical Theatre (Chorus Line). Pupils are prepared for Royal Academy of Dance and International Dance Teacher Association examinations in ballet and tap, and all our teachers hold professional teaching qualifications.

balletAlthough our main classes are held in Brecon, childrens’ classes are also held in Llandovery, and our outreach department provides ballet classes for Christ College, Brecon.

The school is fortunate to have its base at Theatr Brycheiniog where we have the use of a large studio with sprung floor, mirrors and barres.

Our students take part in workshops run by National Dance Company Wales, Owen Money pantomime, and performances of the Strictly Come Dancing show.  We also run a week long summer school, and have an annual performance of our work at Theatr Brycheiniog at the end of each year.

Harlan Rust, a former pupil of the school, has now joined the James Wilton Dance Company after graduating from The Place in London. We also have former students now at London Contemporary Dance School, London Studio Centre, Laban and the Royal Academy of Dance, all of whom hoping to pursue a career in dance. One of our male dancers is a Mid Associate with the Royal Ballet School, and has also been chosen to appear in Matthew Bourne’s production of Lord of the Flies at Cardiff’s Millenium Centre.  We also have Associate pupils with Ballet Cymru, National Dance Company of Wales, and Cechetti Associates.
