Well here’s your chance to join up for a free 6 week Singing Course, run by Synergy, an acappella (without instrumental sound), close harmony chorus based in Abergavenny. The course, starting on Thursday 15th January, will be held in Llanfoist Primary School near Abergavenny and is open to all males over 16.

The course is suitable for both experienced singers and beginners and you don’t have to read music. In addition to developing your vocal technique, you will have lots of fun and meet new friends.

Our singers come from all across Monmouthshire as well as neighbouring counties of Powys, Herefordshire, Gloucestershire and Glamorgan. In 2013 the choir was bolstered by eleven new recruits, most with little previous experience, as a result of a free singing course which was funded by a grant from Abergavenny Town Council. The new recruits, making up over a third of the number on stage, have displayed great dedication and determination to learn the repertoire. In the space of six months they went from “singing in the bath” to being part of a champion choir, proving what can happen with dedication and great tuition from talented Musical Directors.

Musical Director Martin Flory and Associate Musical Director Andrew Walker are both highly skilled musicians winning gold medals at the national Barbershop competition. In rehearsal, their level of expertise and musical ability demands and produces quality work, and yet it is not hard work for the singers.

Andy Fretter, the choir’s Chairman said: “You might imagine that standing on your feet for two and a half hours or more and going over and over a song in order to get it right would be hard work, but no, it is pleasure – everyone goes home on high, knowing both individually and together we continue to get better. And, of course having worked so hard we know we have earned a beer or two in the bar afterwards in great company!”

2014 has been another great year for Synergy including a trip to Abergavenny’s twin town, Oestringen, as part of their 40th Anniversary celebrations; entertaining the prestigious delegates at the International Conference on TB in Cattle hosted by the Welsh Government in the Museum of Wales and recently taking part at The Welsh Proms at St David’s Hall. Also look out for our new CD!

Synergy offer a varied repertoire from the Beatles to Queen, American Classics to showstoppers, touching ballards to laugh out loud barnstormers, held together with light humour. We are available for hire for private or corporate occasions by contacting Mike Howley on 01989 720450. For further information visit Synergysingers.com
