The community of Tretower prides itself on its rich farming heritage, but can turn its hand to many things; in this case – flowers. If you love flowers, then you’re sure to enjoy this wonderful event, organised by St John’s Church in Tretower.
This year will be the third time the church has hosted a flower festival and the theme for 2014 is ‘A Diary of a Country Church.’ Profits will be donated to the church itself and The Institute of Rural Health – a Welsh based charity which seeks to inform, develop and promote the health and wellbeing of rural communities.
A wide variety of arrangements are to be exhibited, including those that depict important dates in the Church calendar such as Christmas and Easter, as well as arrangements for weddings, funerals and baptisms. Look out for quirkier subject matters such as ‘Quiz Night,’ ‘Village Teas’ and ‘Local Country Sports,’ and see how arrangers have interpreted the brief.
Running concurrently to this in the Village Hall next door to the church, will be an exhibition about how church kneelers are made. Refreshments will also be available in the Village Hall.
The church will be open on 3rd – 5th October from 10am-6pm and there will be a service of Harvest Festival on Friday evening 3rd October at 7pm, with refreshments afterwards. The festival comes to its conclusion on Sunday 5th October with a Service of Thanksgiving at 6pm.
