In September, Llangorse Lake will be the base for the first Llangorse Triathlon and Swim.
The events are being organised by two local triathletes, Nicola Goodwin and Kylie Mansfield, who together have more than 25 years of experience in the sport and have represented the Great Britain Age Group teams at numerous European and World Long Distance events.
The Llangorse Big Swim will take place in the afternoon of Saturday September 20th followed by the Middle Distance Triathlon which starts early on Sunday September 21st.
“We both love Llangorse Lake and regularly cycle and run around the area and we’ve always thought that it would be a perfect venue for a race and, thanks to the generosity of the Blackham family, Llangorse Sailing Club and the Llangorse Lake Users Group, the swim and triathlon will take place for the first time in 2014. We hope to involve as many local companies and people as possible in the event and our aim is to boost the local economy and hopefully make it an annual event” said Nicola.
“We aim to keep the disruption for villagers and other lake users down to a minimum. The swimmers will enter the water from the sailing club site and we’re hoping to be able to assist in their clubhouse rebuilding project by making a donation to their funds. The parking will be managed by our marshals and only a small area of the common will be in use on the Sunday for the transition area, where the bikes are stored before and after the cycling section” said Kylie.
“We think that Llangorse is the most beautiful setting in the world for a triathlon and that hopefully the weekend will become a ‘must do’ race for triathletes and swimmers across Britain,” agreed Nicola.
Nicola and Kylie will be making regular visits to Llangorse throughout the year and are keen to speak to anybody who would like to be involved in the event. They are able to offer discounted entry to anybody from Llangose, Bwlch or the nearby villages and are very keen to here from volunteer, charity or community groups who would like to raise money for their cause by assisting during the weekend. There’s also opportunities for local producers of food, drink or crafts to become involved and promote their businesses.
