D-Day 70 will feature both the junior and senior sections of Abergavenny Borough Band, soloists from St Mary’s Priory Church Choir and the Llanfoist Fawr Primary School choir.

The programme is still being finalised but it will include evocative music from the award-winning Band;  a medley of Vera Lynn songs from mezzo soprano Maggie Pratt, of St Mary’s choir; and the school choir singing Quartermasters’ Stores.

Standards will be paraded by the Royal British Legion.

Fr Mark Soady, Vicar of Abergavenny, said: “It’s a privilege to be able to honour those who fought on the beaches of Normandy this way at what promises to be a wonderful concert.”
Tickets for the event at St Mary’s Priory Church, Monk Street, on Saturday, June 7, at 7pm, are £10, with concessions at £8. Tickets for children aged 12 years and under are free, as are those for current and ex-service personnel.

They are available from the Tithe Barn, Monk Street (opposite the church) or by ringing 01873 856624 or 07971 853951 or on the door.

Proceeds from the event will be shared between the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal, Abergavenny Borough Band and St Mary’s Priory Church. There will be a retiring collection for those charities at the end of the concert.
