paper-roses

Here’s something easy and crafty to try. The only thing you’ll need is paper, a pencil, scissors and a spot of glue. Coloured card works well, as does paper that has a print on both sides. Very thin, handmade paper gets great results, but is quite fiddly to work with; the choice is up to you.

  • Start out with a square piece of paper – the larger you want your rose, the larger the piece of paper you’ll need.
  • Draw a spiral on the piece of paper. Don’t worry if your lines are a bit wibbly as this will add texture to your rose.
  • Cut along the lines of your spiral and then, starting from the end of your spiral (not the centre), coil and roll the paper up until you reach the centre.
  • A bit of teasing will help to create the right tightness of your rose – whether you want it to be a blown rose or rosebud is up to you. Put a blob of glue on the base to secure it all in place.

These make great embellishments for gifts, cards or as place settings. You could even string them up with some green wool or thread to make your own climbing rose display. A versatile little project, and super easy too!
