frostAt this time of year, there’s a high risk of inclement weather, so it’s important to prepare your car in anticipation of this possibility, and not to leave it too late!

Before it starts snowing, give your car a good wax. This will both protect its finish, but beyond cosmetic appearances, will help the snow to slide off more easily. Check to see whether your spark plugs or car battery needs replacing – you do not want to have a stalled car in the dead of winter.

To prevent your doors from freezing, spray or smear silicone between the door and the car body. If you wash your car during cold weather – which is a good idea as it will keep salt and grime off your vehicle – spray some anti freeze into the key slot so that water cannot get in and freeze your locks.

As Lee from Lee Jowitt Auto Repairs explains, “a car is not a luxury these days, but an expensive necessity that needs to be available to us twenty four hours a day.” Lee recommends that motorists check their car lights regularly – preferably once a week. He also says that checking the wear on your car tyres is essential, as well as making sure the spare is in good condition. Ensuring the car has anti-freeze is a must for maintaining and preparing your vehicle for the cold weather.

To ensure you are well prepared, we’ve compiled an essential emergency kit to keep in your car in case you get stranded.
