interior design tips

Albeit slightly overdue, we saw some warmer weather recently and suddenly we were blessed with the feeling that spring is on its way.

Now is the perfect time to share some simple ideas for adding a touch of spring to your home. You don’t need a big budget, there are some easy changes you can make to address the key elements of your home, add some spring feeling and lift the overall mood:

Plants and Flowers
flowersWe often focus upon coloured flowers throughout the winter months to brighten the grey days, but now would be a great time to incorporate some more subtle arrangements. Remember, simple is best.

I would suggest white pots, with lots of white and greenery. Perhaps incorporate some repetition in the displays. Using potted plants such as cacti and orchids are also a great to eliminate the maintenance costs associated with fresh flowers which can be expensive.

Kitchen
Simple touches like the use of vessels to display your fruit and vegetables can make really nice displays to make the kitchen feel fresher and more interesting.

Bedroom
I like to think of refreshing the look of the bedroom in a similar way to your wardrobe. As we seasonally change our wardrobe by putting away winter clothes and swapping for lighter fabrics – do the same in your bedroom and take winter covers off the beds. Spring is about crisp white sheets dressed with interesting throws or runners. This is a simple touch, which is inexpensive and instantly transforms the bedroom in to a light and airy space.

Living Room

Creating a feature wall in the living room with decorative wallpaper can instantly give the room a lift. There are a variety of patterns and tones, perfect for adapting your personal style.

Windows
This time of year brings with it more natural light. One thing people are always forgetting to do is clean the windows when spring arrives. Having just taken down on the sheers in the living room, the difference in light that comes through is incredible, and presents the perfect opportunity to refresh the window dressing. Take down heavy curtains and store them. Be a bit more playful with fabrics and go for lighter more linen based ones, which immediately create a new look for your home.

De-Clutter
A fresh look for spring is all about de-cluttering your home. Take every accessory off every shelf and re-arrange them. You will be amazed at how different the room looks. Simple and effective.

Garden
Finally, its time to start cleaning out your garden in preparation for better weather as we begin to move in to the summer months, it is important to consider your outside space in tandem with the inside.
