gwent-policeAbergavenny officers are urging local residents to lock their vehicles when they are parked outside their homes after recent thefts from vehicles.
During March, there were 14 thefts from vehicles, and officers are increasingly seeing incidents where cars have been left unlocked

CULPRIT CAUGHT
Officers are patrolling local residential areas on a daily basis and a local man has recently been arrested and sent to prison for four months for theft from vehicles.
Despite this good result, local Lansdown ward officer Chris Chaloner is warning residents to not be complacent, ‘Criminals really will steal anything such as old CD’s, baby car seats, even loose change. Thieves always look for an easy target and there’s nothing easier for them than an unlocked car.

‘We are doing all we can to prevent local residents having valuables stolen from their vehicles and we’re urging people to help protect themselves from becoming the victims of crime.  Please always double check your car is locked when you leave it, and hide any valuables from view.’

CRIME PREVENTION IS KEY
Officers are offering the following advice;

  • Always lock your vehicle, check and double check!
  • Take any valuables with you or hide them from view in the boot.
  • Report anyone suspicious in your local neighbourhood by calling 101 or if you think a crime is taking place, dial 999.

If you’d like more crime prevention advice, stop to speak to officers when you see them in your ward area or contact them in the Abergavenny Neighbourhood Team office by email Abergavenny@gwent.pnn.police.uk or telephone 01495 233917.
