As readers will know, Abergavenny recently won the Walkers are Welcome award. It was given this status in recognition of the fantastic variety of walking opportunities on offer to residents and visitors.

A day to celebrate walking

Now the group want to celebrate achieving this award, by holding day to showcase all that Abergavenny has to offer. There will be three free guided walks on offer – a riverside stroll to the Sugarloaf Vineyard, a hidden histories trail looking at the town’s key historical features and a walking for health taster one hour gentle walk.

In addition, all day there will be a family boot treasure trail where carefully placed boots with pictures will be placed around the town – and prizes will be available for those who complete.

Also, throughout the day, the celebrations will continue at the Guide Hall, in Fairfield Car Park. Here there will be a range of information on walking, displays by local groups including the Ramblers and National Trust, a range of books, routes and maps, free information on walking routes plus free refreshments and cakes to tempt walkers inside! You will also be able to find out more about the Walkers are Welcome group hope to achieve to make Abergavenny an even better place for walking.

All walks will start from the Guide Hall at 10.30 and you can pick up your treasure trail pack from here too.
