Focus Magazines The local magazines for Abergavenny, Crickhowell, Brecon & Talgarth – Events, News and Advertising
If you’re retired and have a thirst to learn about anything from Architecture to Circle Dancing, the Abergavenny U3A could be for you!

The British University of the Third Age was first established in 1981 and quickly became popular. It is a national organisation, but each local U3A is independent and shares a common purpose, which is educational in its widest sense, but also embraces leisure and social pursuits. The original idea was conceived in order to form a group of like-minded individuals who could come together and learn about the subjects that interested them.  Rather than a traditional didactic approach of teacher/pupil, a group leader or convenor was installed to co-ordinate and help guide their learning efforts.

Our groups meet during the daytime on Tuesdays or Fridays throughout the year (apart from the Sunday Luncheon Club, Monday’s Computing for Beginners and the Walking Group).  We meet at the Abergavenny Thursdays’ Football Stadium, Penypound, and we are very happy to be there. We are supporting the young people in the Football Club and they are supporting us by providing a very convenient venue with plenty of parking. We can even have a quick run around the field if the intellectual stimulus gets too great!

Most groups meet once a month and we have excellent outside speakers and a monthly Coffee Morning. Visit our website; www.u3asites.org.uk/abergavenny  for full details about groups and subjects. Alternatively, contact our membership secretary on 01873 856765.
